Getting to Hospital Appointments in Southampton: A Calm, Practical Guide
How hospital journeys work when they are run properly: booked around your appointment time, help at the door, a return car that waits if the clinic overruns.

Hospital Appointments, Handled Calmly
A hospital appointment is stressful enough without the journey adding to it. Will the car come on time? Will the driver rush off if the clinic runs late? How do you manage doors, bags and a walking frame on your own? Hospital transport done properly answers all three before you leave the house, and that is the service this guide describes.
We run hospital journeys across Southampton and Hampshire every day, from our own base in Shirley, minutes from Southampton General. Local hospital fares start from the £5 minimum fare in Southampton and are quoted per journey when you book, so the practical detail below, not a headline price, is what matters.
A Routine Built Around Your Appointment
Everything starts from your appointment time, not from the car. Tell us the hospital, the department and the time when you book, and we set the pickup to get you there in good time, for early morning outpatient slots as much as daytime clinics. Your driver takes you to the hospital and assists on arrival, with doors, bags and mobility, so nobody is left managing alone at the doors.
The return is booked with the outward journey and held against your appointment time rather than a fixed guess. Clinics overrun; that is a normal part of hospital life, and our answer to it is simple: the driver waits rather than leaving you at the doors, and the return time moves with your appointment. A carer or relative travels in the same vehicle at no extra charge.
- Pickup set from your appointment time, including early morning slots
- Help on arrival with doors, bags and mobility
- Return booked with the outward journey and held against your appointment
- If a clinic overruns, we wait rather than leaving you at the doors
- A carer or relative travels with you at no extra charge
The Hospitals We Run To
Southampton General Hospital, on Tremona Road in Shirley, is the hospital journey we run most; Princess Anne Hospital shares the same site, and Southampton Children's Hospital journeys run the same way, with child seats fitted on request when you tell us each child's age and weight at booking. Beyond the city, Fareham Community Hospital is a regular destination, as is the Royal Hampshire Hospital in Winchester, about 20 minutes up the M3, where we run appointments daily.
We also run patient journeys to the community hospitals in Eastleigh and Romsey and to private clinics across Hampshire, and we collect patients from the Testwood Hospital site in Totton. Wherever the appointment is, the routine does not change: the fare is quoted when you book, the return is booked with the outward journey, and the driver waits if things run on.
Wheelchair and Mobility Journeys
If you travel in a wheelchair, hospital journeys run in our wheelchair accessible vehicles, which are built around the chair rather than around the boot. They carry a powered or manual wheelchair with the passenger and a companion, using a side ramp or rear tail lift with an electric hoist, four point tie down restraints and a lap belt, and a driver trained to transfer and secure the chair safely. One wheelchair travels per vehicle, with room for up to three other passengers alongside.
Accessible journeys are priced according to your specific requirements, so there is no set fare we can honestly publish for them; your driver's help with the ramp and with securing the chair is included at no extra charge. Because accessible vehicles are a smaller part of the fleet, please book at least 24 hours ahead for a hospital appointment where you can, and talk to us by phone, email or WhatsApp first so we confirm the right vehicle and your price.
Regular Appointments, Accounts and Fares
A course of treatment can mean the same journey several times a week: dialysis sessions, scans, clinic reviews and follow ups. Regular patients can be set up on an account so repeat appointments take one short call to book, and clinics or care providers booking journeys for patients can run them on one account the same way, wheelchair accessible bookings included. Accounts are usually set up the same day or within 24 hours, with invoicing weekly, monthly or quarterly, a journey report with every invoice, and payment by bank transfer or card.
For one-off journeys, hospital fares are priced per journey from the published prices and quoted when you book, with local fares from a £5 minimum in Southampton. Bookings are taken 24/7 on 02380 333 000, online, or by WhatsApp: give us the hospital, the department, your appointment time and any mobility needs, and we will handle the rest.
