Travelling With Your Dog: Pet Friendly Taxis in Southampton
Vet visits, New Forest walks and journeys where the dog simply has to come along: how pet friendly taxis work in Southampton, and the one thing to tell us when you book.

Dogs Ride With Us, Muddy Paws and All
For a lot of Southampton households the dog is not an optional extra on a journey; the dog is the reason for it. A vet appointment across town, a New Forest walk that starts miles from the nearest car park, a house move where the dog cannot travel in the removal van. This is a short guide to how travelling with a dog works in our cars, and the one small thing to do when you book.
That thing is simple: mention the dog when you book, and tell us the breed or size. Pets are welcome in the back of our saloons, MPVs and minivans, and with a little notice we can have a crate, a harness clip or a boot liner ready in the car, so the right vehicle turns up and nobody is negotiating with a muddy spaniel on the doorstep.
How Dogs Travel in Our Cars
Dogs travel in the back of the vehicle, settled and secured. A crate sized to your dog is available on request, as is a harness bar clip so a dog wearing its own harness can be fastened safely, and a heavy duty boot liner keeps wet coats and Forest mud where they belong. Smaller pets travel in their own carriers. Tell us the type and size of your pet when you book and we will send the vehicle and the kit that fits.
Assistance dogs travel as a matter of course, on any journey, with no special arrangement needed. And if the worst happens and an animal gets loose, our drivers pull over safely and deal with it calmly rather than chasing it into traffic; a settled passenger, four-legged or otherwise, is the job.

Which Car for Which Dog
A saloon is fine for one small dog. Larger dogs, and any dog that travels with a crate, are happier in an estate or an MPV, where there is room to turn around, lie down and arrive in the same mood they left in. Nervous travellers do better with the liner down, their own blanket if they have one, and a driver who has been warned: all three are arranged by the same sentence at booking.
Two small things make journeys easier. A short walk before a longer ride settles most dogs, and a familiar blanket from home helps in a strange car. If your dog is a nervous traveller, tell us when you book: our drivers would rather know in advance, drive gently, and plan a stop on a long run than find out at the first roundabout.
The Journeys Dogs Actually Take
Around Southampton, dog journeys follow a pattern. Vet runs across town, including the anxious ones, where a calm car and a quick arrival matter. Days out to the Forest, Exbury, Beaulieu and the coast, where the walk starts where the road ends and our day trip drivers know the dog friendly ground. Airport and cruise transfers for travellers whose pets are part of the party. And the one-off moves: new homes, students, and the journeys where the dog simply could not be left behind.
